The Pros and Cons of Matroska
Some years ago I decided to use Matroska as the container format for everything, including audio‐only files. Using a unified container format would simplify the metadata handling, among other things. Unfortunately, while the whole idea looked good on paper, it turned out that life isn’t that simple. It is now 2016, and the support for Matroska as the container for audio‐only files (.mka) is still microscopic, if at all existent. So I have decided to revert to using “native” FLAC, MP3 and MP4.
